Nonfiction requires a detailed proposal, including an overview, competitive analysis, audience analysis, marketing plan, and annotated table of contents. Memoirs, although nonfiction, often follow different rules and may use a hybrid approach.

- Defining a specific audience rather than claiming a broad appeal. This helps in targeted marketing and increases the book’s chances of success.
